Memorial Day - A day we honor the fallen!

Memorial Day

Some see this holiday as the official beginning of Summer, while others see this holiday as a way to reconnect with families and love ones. Not a bad way to enjoy the festivities especially after finals, those darn term papers, and did someone say three day weekend?!? Woot Woot! But as we enjoy this day with family and friends, let's not forget the true meaning of Memorial Day- A day which commemorates all men and women, who have died in military service for the United States. This day was set aside for us to remember those who laid down their lives fighting for the freedom that we embrace in the "free world".

I initially started to draft the wars, dates, and cite Generals and then I realized who am I kidding here- this is not a history lesson but rather an outlet to remind us of the selfless individuals who stopped at nothing in order to defend this country. These fallen soldiers are the true heroes, they gave up everything that we enjoy today (friends, families, love ones) because of a belief that they were not only fighting for a cause but for the right cause in order to make the world a safer and better place.

Thus as we remember our fallen soldiers, lets not forget to take a moment out of our "busy schedule" to also thank our veterans (retired or active) who continue to fight the good fight. Lets "give them their flowers while they're alive", for when they're gone, their efforts becomes a memory. Lets continue to remember those who give up their freedom for ours, visit a memorial today if you could, visit a cemetery and show some compassion for our fallen heroes. However you choose to celebrate this day, do it around the purpose of the holiday.

As for us here at Pedal Up Apparel- We honor the fallen and say a big Thank You to our vets. Have an awesome Memorial Day everyone!

  • Now that is what I call a very good read that has left me reflecting and feeling humbled. Speaking for myself, I am one of those who viewed Memorial Day as simply a vacation day and an excuse to get together with friends and family to eat and party. I always knew Memorial Day had meaning, but never really sat and thought about what the depth of that meaning was. This article has given me reason to take pause today, and be thankful for the men and women who gave up their freedom for ours. Thanks for sharing that awesome read with us!!
